Hurricane Maria 9/19-20/19 St. Croix Photos
Here are some photos of the type of damage we experienced on St. Croix last week. Maria is probably the worst storm to hit the island since Hugo in 1989. I know it is the worst that I have experienced since moving here 11/16/95. I had actually lost power at my residence the afternoon BEFORE IRMA and had just gotten it back on Sunday evening before Maria, only to have WAPA shut down the entire island's power system at 1:30 on Tuesday. There are rumors that many areas of the island won't have power and communications restored for two or more months. Since we do have power restored in Christiansted where I manage Cruzan Creations for my friend, I'm basically going to be camping out here at least 16 hours a day, going home in maximum four hour blocks to fire up the generator to keep the refrigerator running. I moved my 5CF chest freezer to the store and will be transferring the contents of my upright freezer to that in the morning. I'll clean out most of what I have left in the refrigerator and put it in the small refrigerator at the store. Apparently the GoFundMe site that was available for Irma is down, since the link doesn't seem to be working. Any goods that people stateside want to donate and ship to me for distribution can be sent to James A. Hoffman, LMT, 1102 Strand Street Bay 20, Christiansted, VI 00820 BY PRIORITY MAIL, not UPS or FedEx.
